The pns.edu zone has been officially DNSSEC-signed. Plans for rolling DNSSEC out to other hosted zones will be announced as soon as Verisign make this possible. Keep in mind that DNSSEC-signed zones use more resources than a standard DNS zone and should not be attempted without serious consideration of the possible consequences.

Our provider for NS2 has undergone some backend upgrades, and required us to migrate to a new IP. The new IP for NS2 is 209.222.10.207. Service will continue at the old IP 216.155.158.103 for ten more days to assist in transition. Take note that this is in contrast to the embarrassing situation we had last week with the emergency removal and subsequent reinstatement of NS3.

NS3 is now back up and has been sucessfully migrated to a new provider. The new IP is 95.143.197.182.

URGENT: NS3 has been temporarily removed! We were due to be changing provider for this server, and the new provider has not set up our new server in time. To prevent a potential security risk, we have removed references to NS3's IP address 209.212.157.150 from the DNS effective immediately. Please remove any references to this IP from your configurations as it could be reassigned to another entity at any time as our contract has expired with the old provider. When the new provider sets up the new server to migrate to, we will bring NS3 back online at a new IP address and update this information as soon as possible.

As part of the name change of 'Samuel Hills' to 'Samuel Pinder' by Deed Poll, the 'samhills.net' domain is being phased out. As such, highbury.samhills.net is being renamed vmdns.sscom.co.uk (VM standing for Virgin Media, the network this server resides on).

Server SULTAN (IP address: 94.195.209.85) will be removed from service permanently 26 June. It is important to note that we will no longer own the IP 94.195.209.85 and it should be removed from all configurations!

There was downtime today, this has now been fixed. Shield no longer serves DNS requests and is now used as the outgoing gateway, with a new name Sultan for this purpose.

ns2 has a new IP 216.155.158.103 (and IPv6 2001:470:8c1a::11). Service will continue on the old IP 83.246.72.162 (and IPv6 2a02:790:1:6:0:0:1:11) for one month before being switched off permanently.

All servers are online. Connectivity to Shield may be intermittent at peak times, and new hardware has been ordered.

ns1 has been taken offline for maintenance, the other DNS servers will continue to function until further notice.

All servers are fully functional. Since the move from the Eleanor Rathbone residence, Shield has replaced Eleanor.samhills.net, and is temporarily being served from Blackpool. Shield will be located at The Aubergine in Ormskirk once a suitable Internet connection has been established.
